The short version: SkiPing stores the minimum it needs to send your pings — a small profile and the messages themselves. Your location is captured only at the moment you send a ping and is shown only to the friends you chose. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no selling of data. You can delete your account, and everything with it, from inside the app.
What SkiPing stores
- Account: when you sign in with Apple, Firebase Authentication stores your Apple sign-in identifier and, if you share it, your name and (relay) email address.
- Profile: the display name, @handle, and avatar emoji you pick.
- Pings: each ping you send stores your location (latitude, longitude, altitude, accuracy) at that moment, the preset message, any fill-in text, and the recipient. Pings expire 45 minutes after sending and can be deleted by either side.
- Crew: your friend connections, friend requests, and your block list.
- Reports: if you report a user or a problem, we store your report (reason and optional note) so we can review it.
Location, specifically
SkiPing never tracks you in the background. Your location is read only when you actively do something with it: sending a ping (attached to that ping and shared only with the friends you selected) or dropping a parking pin. The parking pin never leaves your device — it's stored locally so it works in a garage with no signal, and it also powers the home-screen widget through a private shared container on your phone.
Who can see what
- Only people you've accepted as friends can send you pings or see the locations you send them. There is no public feed and no way for strangers to look you up beyond your @handle.
- Your profile (name, handle, avatar) is visible to signed-in users so friends can find you by handle.
- Blocking someone stops their requests and pings immediately.
What SkiPing doesn't do
- No ads and no third-party advertising SDKs.
- No analytics or behavioral tracking.
- No selling, renting, or sharing your data with data brokers — ever.
Service providers
SkiPing runs on Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions), which processes and stores this data on our behalf in the United States. Google acts as a data processor and doesn't use your SkiPing data for its own purposes. See Firebase's privacy documentation.
Deleting your account
In the app: Me → Danger zone → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, handle, friendships, pings, and sign-in record from our servers — immediately, with no grace period. If you can't get into the app, email us and we'll delete it for you.
Children
SkiPing is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update this page and note the new effective date at the top.
